Return to Texas Pachyderms

Don't forget to mark your calendars for our Pachyderm Luncheon Meeting this coming Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at noon, at Nacho's Restaurant, located in the Rodeway Inn (formerly Comfort Inn) at 2502 Loop 306.

The program will feature Elizabeth Grindstaff, assistant city manager of San Angelo, as our guest speaker.  She has been very involved in working and coordinating city government affairs and projects.  This will be a fine opportunity to hear about what is happening at city hall and what may be on future agendas of our local government.

Last month, The Standard-Times did not print my news release announcing our April meeting date and that Dr. Joseph Rallo, President of ASU, was going to be our speaker.  I followed up on the news release several times prior to the meeting date to have it published, but to no avail.  In March, The Standard-Times got the meeting day wrong and that got our members confused and also the members of another club confused that was scheduled to meet that day.  The reason I mention all this to you is because this Friday the S-T got our meeting announcement printed correctly, and that was fine and appreciated.  Score one for the common people!  And than today, Sunday, the S-T printed a second announcement for our meeting.  (I guess I should say "score two for the common people."  However, injected into this announcement was: "Grindstaff has been the point person for two of the city's more public controversies--Angelo State University's proposal to close Johnson Street and the city's likely adoption of a stormwater fee."  This comment was not part of my news release.

I was remiss in my newsletter last month in that I did not mention to you that State Representative Drew Darby had sent a Texas State Flag to be presented to our club.  The flag was presented by Yantis Green for Representative Darby.  We appreciate Representative Darby's thoughtfulness and generosity.  Now our club has the National Flag and the State Flag to present at our meetings.  Yantis presented our club with a flag staff to display the State Flag.  We thank Yantis for his thoughtfulness also.

For those of you that could not make the April meeting, you missed a very interesting talk about what is on the ASU's horizon by President Rallo.  You also missed our member Gloria Robertson singing and leading us in the national song of God Bless America.  After what we heard in the media last month about our America, it was great to sing her praises.

Last month we had two new members join our club.  They are Tom Warren and Lee Cambre.  Welcome aboard and we look forward to your participation and input.

If you have not had time to send in your 2008 membership dues, bring your check for the dues ($35.00) to the meeting Wednesday and our treasurer, Lyleann McClellan Thee, will save the trouble of mailing your dues in.

If the board members can stay after the luncheon, I would like to have aboard meeting.  If not workable, than I will tentatively schedule a board meeting for Wednesday, May 21st, at 2 P.M. at Nacho's.

Continue to support our troops and let it be known we are invested in VICTORY and not defeat.  Republicans are invested in National Sovereignty!!!

Thanks for being the good citizens you are.  Bring a prospective member to the meeting on Wednesday.  They will be glad you did.  You are the best membership recruiters we have.  Pray for the safety of our troops in the Middle East, our President, our elected and appointed officials, and judges.  Fight the good fight, run the race, and keep the Faith!!!
